With so many differing shades on the market for bronze; golden bronze, taupey bronze, orange bronze, or even bronzey bronze, it’s possible to skip past these metallic shades, thinking that they’re only for cheeks and face in the summer time. Not so!
International makeup artist, and ambassador for NEW CID Cosmetics, Mikey Phillips has created a look just for MAF, right from primer through to the finished eyes!
Bronze tones have been classic for years…. here’s an updated sexy smouldering look using bronze, chocolate and copper tones, the most versatile shades and will work on every single skin tone.
This is an updated step by step guide to going bronze in 2011……
Skin
After cleansing, toning and moisturising apply a primer all over the face. Primer is the key to a great makeup! Blurs imperfections, glides product onto the skin, delivers long lasting results. Paying special attention to the nose, forehead and chin area.
Primer….New Cid i Prime, Laura Mercier Illuminating Primer, Becca Radiance Primer.
The key to wearing less makeup is to use an amazing concealer! Apply underneath lower lashes, in the inner corners of the eye and all over the lid. Over the lid helps to brighten and lift and is a great base for eye shadow, underneath the eye; bring the concealer down further into a v shape to enhance your cheek bones and create a more lifted highlighted shape.
Always pat the concealer into place to give better coverage and application.
Concealer….Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer, i Conceal New Cid Cosmetics, Becca compact concealer.
Apply a tinted moisturiser or foundation starting in the centre of the face so t zone and blend outwards. Blend around the concealer not over the top using fingers or a brush depending on the formulation you use. Sometimes the heat from the hands helps the foundation to melt onto the skin giving a more natural appearance.
Foundation……Mac face and body, Becca foundation stick, Bobbi Brown just skin, Jemma Kidd mineral skin nourishing tint SPF 20.
For a more natural sun kissed look use a darker shade of creamy concealer or foundation and use to shade and contour the face. Apply around the temples to narrow
the face, underneath the cheek bones to create shadow and definition, across the forehead, down the nose onto the chin. Also take a little down the neck to again add definition and shape. Apart from adding warmth and shape to the face shading also makes you look slimmer!
If you don’t find it easy to blend with creams go for a baked bronzer. The formulation is creamy and blendable and gives amazing glow and radiance to the skin.
Apply across the forehead, down the nose onto the chin and down the neck this brings the face and body together. Use around the side of the face in a number three shape…..down the temples, underneath the cheek bones sweep back into the hairline chin and down the neck.
Bronzer. My ultimate bronzer…New Cid Cosmetics i bronze; The creamy baked marbleised formula is universal and is the perfect shade for a vast array of skin tones.
Add warmth and beautifully sculpted cheek bones with ease.
Apply through the t zone so across the forehead, down the nose, chin and take it down the neck to bring face and body together. Next, shade down the temples to narrow the face and underneath the cheek bones to create ultimate shape and definition. Take a small blending brush and apply the bronzer through the eye socket to create warmth and depth.
By applying bronzer in this way avoids flat dirty looking colour makeup is all about light and shade. Think of bronzer as a shading product.
To stop our look looking bronze heavy add a coral or peach tone blush and apply to the apples of the cheeks and sweep back into the hairline catching the top of the cheeks creating lift and freshness and highlighting at the same time.

Lips
Firstly even if wearing only a gloss always start with a lip liner….. follow the natural shape of the lips even up where needed and colour the entire lip in to create a more natural look and a base for your lip colour.
Lip liner should be natural looking and not seen as a darker line around the mouth. Add a clear or bronzey tone gloss try to find one with gold flecks to add fullness and a little kick to the nude look.
Lip Liner… MAC Sublime Culture, New Cid Cosmetics i define nude, Bobbi Brown Brownie Pink
Now the reason to do brows before the eyes is to see what you’re working with. Brows really frame the face and can make smaller eyes look bigger…
Start at the bridge of the nose and extend brows almost in line with the corner of the eye… Easiest way to achieve great looking brows… create the shape using a brow crayon or wax… next using a brush and powder create brush strokes in the direction of the hair growth for amazing natural looking brows…

Eyes
So start with a nude creamy shade to take away any discolouration on the lid, to act as a base and to create a bright clean canvas…..
For this sexy look use a gel liner as a shadow… Blend a gold or copper tone from the lash line all over the lid blending slightly higher than the natural crease….
We are using bronze shades so to update the look, use colours with a sheen or gold fleck to make the whites of the eyes whiter and for the look to pop. Go back to your bronzer and soften the edge by blending in a v shape through the crease back and forth until soft and smoky…. Same technique add a deeper chocolate shade to create drama….use the same colour, and with a smaller smudge brush, smudge into the lower lashes but take the colour all the way across to maximise the eye shape.
Working with gel again black this time, tight line top lashes… so look down into a mirror and pat onto the fleshy part of the eye underneath the lashline. This creates fuller lashes and a more lifted look…
For drama repeat this in the lower waterline gives you that sexy Penelope Cruze smouldering look… Use the gel again with an angled brush and follow top lashine line from the centre and work either side, right into inner eye corner and thicker towards outer edge.
Top liner has the most impact with eyes…..
Finish with black mascara and really zig zag the brush to work product from the roots…..
Sexy, classic and a highly wearable makeup look day or night

Laura Geller Bronze and Brighten.
Unless you watch QVC, you may not have heard of Laura Geller. She’s a very well known American makeup artist who created a range of products for her clients. Her staple trait through the majority of those produucts is that they start life as a liquid, get baked, and when you then come to apply the product, it goes on silky and smooth. This is one of her most well recieved items, it adds a level of luminosity to the skin, while adding a hint of bronze. Lit from the inside out!

They’ve named it Sandy, they descrive it as Copper, but it’s a really beautyiful shiny bronze. A definite winner here, the Nubar polishes deliver the colour you see in the bottle. Not the most long lasting, but for nail colour fans, that’s okay, it’s fine to change your polish twice a week!
